Mission & Vision

Bigger Than Today: Our Mission, Vision & Values

Start your story and strengthen your relationship with God at Forest Lake Academy (FLA), a Seventh-day Adventist school that empowers students to learn, love and lead through a Christ-centered education.

An FLA education imparts more than academic knowledge. It fosters a balanced development of the whole person, allowing our students to deepen their faith, reach their potential, strengthen their character, broaden their perspective — and make lifelong friends in the process.

Our Mission

The Forest Lake Academy mission is to show students Christ, nurture their love for Him and others, teach them to think critically, and empower them to share the gospel.

Our Vision & Values

We will be an educational institution that uses innovative and engaging academic practices that are founded on Biblical principles to prepare students to pioneer the work of taking the gospel to the global community every day.

Biblical truth  |  Creativity |  Critical thinking  |  Integrity |  Mutual respect |  Personal responsibility |  Service

Our Educational Philosophy

As a Seventh-day Adventist school, we believe that, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, God’s character and purpose can be understood as revealed in nature, the Bible and Jesus Christ.

The distinctive characteristics of Adventist education — derived from the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White — point to the redemptive aim of true education: to restore human beings into the image of their Maker.

Adventist education prepares students for useful and joy-filled lives by helping them:

  • Develop a life of faith in God and respect for the dignity of all human beings
  • Build character akin to that of the Creator
  • Become thinkers rather than mere reflectors of others’ thoughts
  • Promote loving service rather than selfish ambition
  • Reach maximum development of their individual potential
  • Embrace all that is true, good and beautiful

Our Institutional Goals

Spirituality: To facilitate meaningful and personal spiritual growth in our students through our classroom experience, school culture, programming and relationships.

Positive Environment: To maintain a physical place and social culture that is attractive and positive, and that promotes the development of each of our core values.

Academic Quality: To provide the very best possible rigor in a comprehensive academic program that is respectful of and attentive to the unique learning needs of each of our students.

Community: To demonstrate true collegiality, mutual respect and Christian love for all members of our school family and the larger community within which we operate.

Financial Stewardship: To operate the school in a financially sound manner that is cognizant of the limited resources of parents and the conference, and that provides for the programs of the school in the most efficient manner possible.

Our Community

Ours is a campus moved for Christ. While we all have individual stories to explore, we are on this journey together. For that reason, FLA is focused on building a nurturing, accepting and supportive community with relationships at its core:

  • Relationships with students & families: We are deeply invested in each student’s growth and success; our principal personally knows all 420 students by name.
  • Relationships across boundaries: Our distant-education program allows students from around the world to join together in a Christ-centered education.
  • Relationships with God: Every day, we help our students begin and expand their relationships with Jesus, to become part of God’s story and live life as a Jesus follower.

Our Acceptance Policy

Forest Lake Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, disability or academic/artistic/athletic ability in its admissions policies, educational programs or activities afforded students within the school. However, because Forest Lake Academy is owned and operated by the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, entrance preference may be given to its members should limitation of facilities, class space or work opportunities make it necessary.
