At Forest Lake Academy, our Innovation program empowers students to tackle real-world problems. From ideation to prototyping, students engage in hands-on learning that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial spirit.
This is achieved by:
Creating a Student-Centered Learning Environment
Supporting Student Voice and Choice
Developing Real-World Connections
Curriculum
UNITED NATION'S 17 GOALS: Students choose one of the UN’s 17 Goals for Sustainable Development to focus their innovation efforts. They use the tools and technologies taught in the Innovation Lab to advance their ideas.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MARKETING: All students are taught the Lean Startup Model of business planning. Pitch decks and presentations are a fundamental element of our program. Students also develop marketing materials for their projects. Exceptional ideas are turned into LLCs, with opportunities to pursue patents as relevant.
PROCESS AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Students use the five phases of the Design Thinking Process (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test) to turn their dreams into reality. SCRUM Agile Project Management techniques help the students to stay accountable to the progress of their ideas.
